PLANNING CONTEXT

The land owned by OCC (shown in red to the right), is located within the East Chipping Norton Strategic Development Area (SDA) for residential development. This is allocated in the Adopted West Oxfordshire Local Plan(2018).

Policy CN1 – East Chipping Norton SDA allocates sufficient land to provide 1,200homes as shown outlined on the adjacent plan.

Since this time, some of this land has now been developed, including the land adjacent to the Cricket Club.

The delivery of other sites to the south of London Road has been delayed by discovery of archaeological remains, which is explained in more detail within the constraints board.

West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) are currently preparing a new Local Plan covering the period up to 2041. Consultation is currently taking place on the preferred options until 22 December 2025.

Chipping Norton continues to be considered a principal town – a primary focus for development.

The options highlight that given the constraints, there is a need to revise and reduce the previous amount of housing allocated in the Adopted Plan and to focus development to the north of London Road instead, for 750 dwellings.

The emerging Local Plan does not identify a proposed link road as previously proposed in the Adopted Local Plan.

These proposals will comply with both the Adopted Local Plan and the Preferred Options for the emerging Local Plan.
